Mounting solar modules on flat roofs is easy, and many commercial (and more recently residential) projects are done using a ballasted, non-penetrating option called the EcoFoot2 rack. These racks are weighted down with concrete blocks and are rail-free.

It is important to make sure that your roof can handle the weight of these ballasted arrays. You will need to connect with a local engineer or licensed home builder to make this determination.

When you order Ecofoot2 racking and solar equipment from us, we work with our engineers through our suppliers to design a custom-made system for you based on the size of the array, height from ground level and other factors. For example, a recently built ballasted array used almost 2000 pounds of concrete blocks for 15 modules on a flat roof. This was spread across 400 square feet so the weight per square foot was well within the acceptable range for most structures.
