Protect your family from power outages with clean, renewable backup power

In British Columbia, climate change is driving more frequent and extreme weather including wind and ice storms that play havoc with electrical infrastructure. BC Hydro reported in November 2018 that extreme weather has tripled the number of power outages over a five year period. To learn more, check out this story on CBC’s website here.

Forest fires can also increase this risk as critical generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure is often in remote locations where fires can grow rapidly.

There are many ways to protect you and your family from these power outages including using back-up electrical storage systems that have the option of being connected with solar or wind.

Sweet Spot Solar is pleased to offer a brand new product recently made available in Canada through our suppliers.

This is the ExprESS 5.4 by Simpliphi Power.

In short, it is a battery powered AC generator that stores electricity using state-of-the-art lithium ferro phosphate batteries. These batteries can be recharged more than 10,000 times, and can be discharged down to empty over-and-over again.

The unit can be mounted inside or outside, and it has dimensions of 36”X36”X17” and weighs 365 pounds. Here’s a peek inside. It has a lockable cabinet.

It can be used in full off-grid applications or on-grid at home or in your place of business. We can access considerably larger, commercial and disaster relief scale systems for schools, hospitals, shelters, etc.

Here’s the best part.

The ExprESS 5.4 has 5.4 kWh of fully usable battery power. With other batteries including lead acid and AGM, you can only discharge the batteries to 50% of capacity, and not very often. This lithium ferro phosphate system - with a depth of discharge down to 0% - is the equivalent of a 10 kWh battery system using other battery chemistry options.

For on-grid applications, the ExprESS 5.4 is connected to your breaker box (a generator panel) and it maintains a charge from grid power. You can add solar modules or wind turbines to the system easily to keep the batteries charged, and an option exists to connect it to a fully net metered solar array so that you can also save money on your power bill throughout the year.

If you’re looking for backup power now, the Simpliphi ExprESS 5.4 is hard to beat. It can be setup in a matter of hours, and you can add wind or solar at any time, if you so choose.

Sweet Spot Solar is selling this system for $15,999 + shipping and GST. To learn more, contact Michael at
